Steve Novacek, Drafting Project Leader, joined Wagester & Lease and Port-Land Systems in 2002 with 35 years' experience in engineering and construction. His projects for us involve bulk material storage and handling systems in the cement, grain, feed, aggregates, and related industries both new construction and renovation projects. In addition to leading projects he does design, detail and layout using computer aided drafting.

Steve has been involved in a wide range of projects over his career, including a variety of steel and other metal mills and furnaces, power plant construction, casters, thermal oxidizers, hyperbolic cooling towers, galvanizing lines, pickling lines, stadiums, schools, parking garages and other architectural projects, and in the detailing of structural steel and architectural steel. In terms of complexity, his work on construction projects for power plant hyperbolic cooling towers is particularly noteworthy, as the towers reached heights of 500' and diameters of more than 300'. A particularly complex engineering project was for twin thermal oxidizers (80' long, 21' in diameter) covering an area the size of a football field in South Korea.

Steve is a graduate of several schools and training programs, including an associate’s degree from Triangle School of Drafting and Design for mechanical and structural design, an associate’s degree from Triangle Tech for Architectural computer aided drafting in Auto Cad and Microstation, he has attended the OSHA Training Institute in Chicago, MSHA Training Institute in Pittsburgh, and attended various construction courses at Community College. He is a former member of the NISD (National Institute of Steel Detailing), an officer for the Ceramic Guild of Pittsburgh, a member of the National Safety Council of Western PA and the American Society of Safety Engineers as well as a former volunteer firefighter and line officer and Cub master for the Boy Scouts of America.
